The cutest crochet food ever!

I don’t make a whole lot of crochet food, but this adorable wine and chocolate truffle set was conceptualized as a gift you might bring to a dinner party for your host!

I wanted to create a truly fancy wine bottle for champagne some other kind of wine, complete with a gorgeous wine label (which is really how I choose my wines). I loved adding small details to shape the cap and neck of the bottle.

The top of all in gold to emulate the gold foil found on some wine bottles, which matches the chocolate truffle beside it.

The chocolate is based off of Ferrero Rocher truffles, which are one of my all time favorite treats! For this section, I created a brown wrapper and gold center that evokes the iconic Ferrero Rocher packaging.

This set was originally created as part of a collaboration with other amigurumi designers like Lu at Luluslittleshop and a whole host of other amigurumi designers.

Together we formed an entire miniature feast with lobster! You can buy the whole set of eight food patterns as a discounted bundle here 🙂

I love all the detail that each designer put into their works, and I love how they all coordinate so well as miniatures!

Here’s the whole feast for scale on a regular kitchen countertop!

Tips for making mini foods!

This set of wine and chocolate are smaller than most amigurumi, so if you’ve never crocheted miniatures before, here are a few tips to get you going on your way.

I wouldn’t recommend this as a first project for beginners because of the size and more advanced techniques, but definitely give it a go if you’re comfortable with amigurumi already!

  • With mini amigurumi, the challenge is always going to be making sure your hook is going in the right place. This sometimes means redoing your piece if you find that you accidentally ended up with one less or more stitch, since this makes a big difference in an amigurumi this small, but it will be well worth it.
  • Stuff your amigurumi with yarn tails, and push it in with the back of a crochet hook. This will help you avoid messing around with finicky polyfill and will ensure that you don’t overstuff.
  • Crochet under good lighting, and take your time. You can do this! Be patient and it will work out, I promise!

Technical Notes

  1. Crochet in continuous spiral rounds, unless specified otherwise. Use a stitch marker or piece of yarn to keep track of the last stitch in each round.
  1. When filling with polyester stuffing, pull apart each large chunk into many smaller chunks. This ensures an even distribution of firmness within the amigurumi.
  2. To avoid large holes in the crochet fabric, increase tension until the holes cannot be seen, or choose a crochet hook a size down.
  1. Use sewing pins to secure parts of the amigurumi before you sew them.

Making the wine label

To create the wine label, cut a 1/2″ (1.3 cm) x 3/8″ (0.95 cm) rectangle out of white felt.

Then, using brown embroidery thread, embroider the letters “VIN” in the top half of the rectangle using short stitches.

Below the letters, follow this tutorial to embroider a daisy in pink thread (fig. 2).

Use fabric glue to attach the wine label between rounds 1-5 (counting from the bottom). Your finished wine bottle should look like figure 3.
