For Every Occasion!

This adorable mini crochet bunny can be used as a treasured gift for children, or any loved one who needs a little pick-me-up. Mingming can also be used as tabletop centerpiece in the spring, or home decor for a bedroom. She’s cute and cuddly, especially when made with Feels Like Butta yarn, perfect for all ages. The best thing about this project is that she can be worked up in one day, so you’re guaranteed to finish your cute bunny on the same day that you begin this project. If you have a lazy weekend coming up, this will be your go-to project! No matter the occasion, this mini crochet bunny is a fun and quick make!

Stash-Buster Project

You can finish this entire bunny with less than one skein of yarn—she’s miniature, after all! This means that you don’t have to go on an expensive shopping trip before you begin; you can start right away, saving you both time and money. If you’re like me, you have tons of half skeins or tiny balls of yarn scattered around your workstation. And now is the perfect time to use all those up!

I decided to make the body of the mini crochet bunny white to complement the brown color of my larger bunny pattern, but you can make it any color you want. I would stick to natural colors like browns and grays to match the colors of real bunnies, but if you want to go wild and make a neon orange bunny, orange is my favorite color so that’s totally fine by me!

The mini crochet bunny’s dress is where I decided to use brighter colors to contrast with the white body. I thought the soft pink was a great delicate choice, but I was torn between blue and purple as well. You really can’t go wrong, because most color combinations between a neutral and bright color will look great. Read on for a note about yarn choice and substitution, and then we’ll get to the pattern.

Yarn & Substitution

As mentioned above, I used Lion Brand Feels Like Butta yarn in White for the body. If you haven’t used this yarn before, it’s so fluffy the ball itself feels (and looks!) like a cloud. It’s similar to chenille, but it’s significantly easier to work with and makes your project super soft and fuzzy. I made the dress in the Pink colorway of the yarn.

A note on yarn substitution: there is a lot of variation between brands of yarn that are categorized as worsted weight. The best way to compare skeins from different brands, fiber contents, and origins, is to look at the yardage per gram. This can be found on the yarn label on any ball or skein of yarn.

When blending yarns within one project, try to make sure that two given balls of yarn differ no more than 0.5 yards per gram from each other and that the gauge is similar.

  • Crochet in continuous spiral rounds (not joined rounds), and use a stitch marker or piece of yarn to keep track of the last stitch in each round.
  • When filling with polyester stuffing, pull apart each large chunk into many smaller chunks. This ensures an even distribution of firmness within the amigurumi.
  • Stuff the head and the body firmly at the openings so that the neck is stable upon completion.
  • To avoid large holes in the crochet fabric, increase tension until the holes cannot be seen, or choose a crochet hook a size down.
  • Use sewing pins to secure limbs of the amigurumi before you sew them.
