Hanging Baskets make a lovely addition to any home and can be used in so many ways- from holding plants, stationary, bathroom supplies and more! They work up quickly and the only other materials you need is a hook to hang them up, or even a dowel as seen below. These would look great hung up in a kids room as small toy storage and colourful yarn would really make them pop!
Durable yarns like cotton or t-shirt yarn would work well here as you want something sturdy to be able to hang heavier items and able to be cleaned. Although these are hanging basket patterns, the finished product could easily be used as a simple basket for any surface or as a pot cover.
I hope you enjoy this round up of hanging basket patterns and have fun gifting them or making for yourself!

Hanging Baskets on Dowel
How cute do these baskets look hanging on a dowel! Although only three are displayed in this picture, you could crochet more baskets and hang them on a longer dowel if you wish. The pattern has two sizes, so you can chose either or why not crochet them both? These baskets are made in Red Heart Crochet Nylon which is available through the link to Yarnspirations, but you could use any!
Hanging Wall Basket
Would you believe that this basket is simply made of a crochet square? Then the corners need to be sewn together in an envelope shape, add a loop to hang and you are done! Yarns like acrylic and wool are likely to stretch when the basket holds heavier items, so the designer recommends using a stronger type. A special stitch is used here, but simple stitches could be used to work up the basket easier. The pattern includes images throughout but a video tutorial is also available.
Sweet Stripes Hanging Baskets
I love the colours of these hanging baskets and how they look all lined up! They are fun to make and super versatile, with many uses such as holding toiletries, fruit or crafts. I can’t think of any better way to store your crochet supplies than in something you made! The pattern allows you to create small, medium or large baskets with them all working up pretty quickly, it will be difficult to stop at just one.
Teardrop Hanging Basket
This small crochet project is cleverly made from a doily, how cool is that! The pattern is easy to read and also includes a crochet chart, I would say it is beginner friendly. Only consisting of 12 rounds, you could get carried away by making more than one! The finished works up to be about 16 by 9 inches, so a cute size, but you could probably increase it by making your circle or doily part bigger. Light plants or toys work great to displayed in this hanging basket!
Fleur Hanging Basket
This is a super stylish hanging basket perfect for displaying plants, especially easy to care for ones like succulents! The project works up quickly in only 21 rounds and uses barely any yarn. The pattern is written super simply so even a beginner could give this one a go. Either a dowel or hook could be used to hang this pot up, or could just be sat on a surface. When putting a pot in one of these it can be fun to match the colour of your yarn to the plant as done with the pinks here!
One and Done Hanging Basket
The chunky design of these baskets means so much can be stored or displayed in these! It is made using Bernat Blanket O’Go, so super soft and durable. These baskets are made of split single crochets and chain stitches, so interestingly the stitch looks like knitting! Yarnspirations advertises a kit that includes everyone you need to make a basket, or you could explore your own yarn options to go with this pattern. Whether you make one, three or more these baskets are sure to be effective in organising your space!
Tulip Hanging Basket
Decorated with tulip stitch, this pattern works up into a lovely design! Some complicated stitches like front post treble crochet and reverse single crochet or crab stitch are used, so this may be an intermediate level project. This hanging basket works up to about 15 by 9 inches and would be good for hanging small items. Little plushies or decorative plants would look adorable in them, matching yarn colour to the item would complete the package!
Small Hanging Basket
These baskets are adorable, and as seen in the above image perfect for storing toiletries! Hobbii Ribbon yarns are used here which are made of cotton, incredibly soft and durable, T-shirt yarn (either bought or made yourself) could also be good for a similar thick and sturdy effect. The pattern may be accessed for free from the Hobbii website or bought along with the supplied you need. These would make great gifts leading up to Christmas or birthdays- by say crocheting two sizes, sitting them together and wrapping around in a ribbon!
Rope Hanging Baskets
This hanging basket is unique in that it is crocheted around rope for a sturdier design! The designer recommends using a clothesline or other cotton cording for a nice stiff basket. The pattern is easy to understand with some pictures and stitch tutorials included. A small basket works up to be able 4 inches diameter by 4 inches tall, although the pattern can be customised to cater for larger sizes.
